Auburn Beautification Commission Searches for the City’s 2011 Holiday Tree
The Auburn Beautification Commission (ABC) has been granted the duty by Mayor Mike Quill, of selecting the City of Auburn’s Downtown Holiday Tree. Each season, the City of Auburn partners with the Downtown BID to host the Annual Holiday Parade and Family Fun Day. The tree lighting ceremony, immediately following the parade, attracts hundreds of spectators and is the symbolic kickoff to the holiday season.
Last autumn, ABC advertised its first ever “Search for the Perfect Holiday Tree” competition through the City and surrounding area. Members of the ABC were assigned the task of accepting the nominations and selecting the winning tree based on criteria including size, color, shape and uniformity. A 40’ blue spruce from a residence on S. Hunter Avenue was harvested and erected in front of City Hall. This massive beauty was sight to see, and the largest Christmas tree the City has ever displayed.
Once again, the ABC is looking for that perfect tree to adorn the corner of South and Lincoln Streets. Members of the community are asked to contact Laurie Turo of ABC if you think you have the perfect tree. Nominations will be accepted through November 10, 2011 and should include your name, address, phone number and location of tree on the property. Trees should be at least 25’ tall and easily accessible by the City’s urban forestry crew.
If you think your tree will make the cut, please contact Laurie Turo in the Mayor’s Office, City Hall at 315.255-4104 between 8AM - 4PM, Monday through Friday.
The ABC is a not for profit, charitable corporation dedicated to making Auburn a more beautiful place to live, work and play. For more information, or to learn how you can support their mission, visit http://www.beautifulauburn.org/.
