"Good News" from Auburn

In this annual snapshot, readers will find information on downtown employment and vacant building statistics. The report shows there are a large number of both currently occupied and potential downtown residential units. This is a hot topic for the City’s Comprehensive Planning Committee, which will be wrapping up phase one shortly. Young professionals and older couples are the perfect target demographic for living close to the City’s center.

The report outlines the City’s downtown employers, with the highest percentage of these being professional services, then retail and restaurant space, government, non-profits, and hotel and housing representing only a small percentage. The top three companies, with the largest number of employees, included Wegman’s, the YMCA and Cayuga County Health Department.

The report also publishes the results of the BID member survey. Many of these elements touched on issues surrounding parking, and the BID’s marketing tools, such as their new website and e-mail communications. Challenges to downtown businesses, and future focus areas, wrapped up the report.
