Meet New Auburn Enlarged School District Superintendent Joseph D. Pabis
Auburn Enlarged City School District
Joseph Pabis was unanimously appointed as the district’s new superintendent effective August 1st. Pabis, the current assistant superintendent of personnel, finance and operations for the district, succeeded current superintendent John Plume, who retired at the end of July.
The board spent a week reviewing a dozen applications submitted for the position. During that week they came to the conclusion that Pabis was the perfect person for the job. Pabis had joined the district in January ’02 as part of the administrative team put together by Plume.
Board President David Lansford shared, “As the board undertook the responsibility of finding a new leader, we all agreed on the essentials: a person of strong character, mature in public school experience, but also with a depth of personal life experience.”
He continued, “We wanted experience with major building projects, union negotiations, and professional discipline yet who also had a thoughtful understanding of students’ needs and the hopes and dreams of the parents as well.”
Pabis, of Groton, was previously employed as the superintendent of the Candor school district in Tioga County.
