Events in Auburn this holiday season!

There is no better place to celebrate the holidays than Auburn, New York! The Historic Sites Commission has worked all year long to offer a variety of events for Auburnians and visitors during the holiday season. What better way to celebrate with loved ones by honoring the rich and prestigious history and culture in Auburn?!

CAYUGA MUSEUM & CASE RESEARCH LAB (www.cayuganet.org/cayugamuseum)

This year the Cayuga Museum presented an exhibit called "The Games People Play: Sports in Cayuga County". This was a very well attended and popular exhibit. Sports are a very important part of our community. This fact was well illustrated by the huge support given to the State Championship winning Auburn High Football Team. The Cayuga Museum has made arrangements to collect memorabilia from this season's football team. In 20 year, 50 years or 100 years, the Museum will have the material to add to a future exhibit about sports in Cayuga County.

SEWARD HOUSE
(www.sewardhouse.org)

It has been a year since the publication of Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals: The Political Gebius of Abraham Lincoln. While the staff at the Seward House prepared to greet readers who were newly enthusiastic about Seward and Lincoln, they are not sure that they were ready for the overall response. Within three days of publication, the Seward House had their first visitor - a gentleman driving from North Carolina and listening to the audio book - who made a specific detour to see the place. In February fifty people came to a book discussion on Rivals. By the summer, unprecedented numbers of new guests arrived form across the country. The museum welcomed over 2,000 visitors in July and 1,900 more in August. Among these interested readers were Congressman Sherwood Boehlert and State Senators David Valesky, Raymond Meier and Michael Nozzolio. In July, Governor George Pataki dropped in for a tour. Governor Pataki's was the first gubernatorial visit since Thomas E. Dewey stopped at the Seward House in 1946.
