"Good News" from Auburn

The Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center marked its 25th anniversary with several events including an Open House on May 7th and a 25th Anniversary Celebration & Fundraiser on June 10th.

The Open House was a huge success. Over 400 people visited the Art Center through out the day. With 25 different ways to celebrate 25 years, there was something for just about everyone. The days highlights included outdoor performances by participants of the Music/Performing Arts Series led by local musician Bob Piorun, PUSH Physical Theatre, a dance/performance art group from Rochester who surprised visitors with their unique form of performance in the center of the galleries, gallery talks by Robert Brower, CEO of IAGT and exhibiting artist Darryl Hughto. The Art Center also received a special recognition award from the City of Auburn for 25 years of bringing the arts to our community.

On June 10th the Art Center hosted our 25th Anniversary Celebration & Fundraiser. The event included presentations of the Raymond Starr Awards to volunteers Frank & Shirley Hastedt and artist Christopher Baker for their contributions to the arts, a silent auction of artwork donated by regional artists, and a raffle drawing of a landscape painting by renowned local artist Frank A. Barney. Guests also enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment provided by the Kevin Dorsey Collective.

This was the second presentation of the newly created Raymond Starr Award, which recognizes outstanding service and contributions to the arts and culture in our community. This award was established by the Emeritus Committee of the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in memory of Mr. Raymond Starr, who served on the first Board of Trustees and was instrumental in creating the Art Center.
