2010 Leadership Cayuga Project: Re-branding and Revitalizing The Genesee Center
Group participants: Jeff Alberici, Lauren Chyle, Mark Fritz, Tina Morrissey and Laurie Trojnor
The Task
The Genesee Mall was erected at the corner of Genesee and South Streets, in the heart of downtown Auburn, in 1969-70. It represented the promise of future business growth. Today called, the Genesee Center, it has a proud history where memories were made, but downtown never realized that anticipated growth. Now we see new opportunities developing for the downtown area.
The Genesee Center has the potential to be a major driver of increased development in downtown Auburn. This project examines closely the usage and aesthetics of the Genesee Center, and explores options for changing its facade, developing the rooftop, and future uses for the interior space in order to help the Genesee Center, and downtown Auburn, realize its potential.
