"Good News" from Auburn

Tickets for the 10th Adams Foundation Piano Series are on sale now at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 17 William Street in downtown Auburn. New this year, St. Mary's Church of Auburn joins Westminster as the local co-sponsor for this year’s milestone season.

Featured are solo performances by the dynamic Awadagin Pratt on October 24, 2010 and the masterful Ian Hobson on April 3, 2011. Both Sunday concerts begin at 3PM at Westminster Church.

Jill Fandrich, with Westminster Presbyterian Church said, "The Adams Piano Series is celebrating its 10th season this year, and it just keeps getting bigger and better. We are so excited to welcome Awadagin Pratt on October 24. He represents a new breed of classical pianist; he is an amazing musician known for his skill and insight, and he is also known for his unique attire and trademark dreadlocks. He performed last fall at the White House, and Auburn is privileged to have a performer of his caliber right here in our hometown."

Awadagin Pratt is a great favorite on college and university performing arts series, as well as at acclaimed sites like Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. He has toured in Japan, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Israel, and South Africa, and has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America and Sesame Street.

Born in Pittsburgh, Awadagin began performing on piano at age 6. He entered the University of Illinois at age 16, and then the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he became the first student in the school's history to receive diplomas in three performance areas-- piano, violin, and conducting. Among his generation of concert artists, pianist Awadagin Pratt is acclaimed for his musical insight and intense performances that receive tremendous audience response and press attention throughout the U.S.

The Adams Foundation, founded by Stephen Adams of Santa Barbara, CA, brings international caliber pianists to perform in intimate chamber settings in America's small towns. Stephen Adams was a Yale classmate of duo-pianists and Auburn natives Richard and John Contiguglia, and together, they provide the financial backing, the artistic expertise, and the energy and enthusiasm to make the Adams Foundation Piano Series grow each year.

Now in its tenth year, the Adams Foundation has sponsored such artists as Richard and John Contiguglia, the late Ruth Laredo, Ian Hobson, Robert DeGaetano, Steven Mayer, and Jon Nakamatsu, Anne Schein, James Tocco, Jeanne Stark Iochmann, Ursula Oppens, Joseph Kalichstein, and Simone Dinnerstein.

Auburn is proud to be one of the original sites of the Adams Foundation Series, largely due to the efforts of its native sons, the Contiguglia brothers. St. Mary's Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church are the local Auburn sponsors of the Adams Foundation Piano Series.

Series admission is $35; individual performances are $20 for adults and $10 for students. For ticket order forms and more information visit www.westminsterauburn.org or call 253-3331. Event contact person: Tom Hussey, 315-253-5288 wthussey@gmail.com.
