HEAL NY Grant Project Underway

Exciting plans for the future of Auburn Memorial Hospital have been unveiled in the form of preliminary designs from HOLT Architects. Although the details are still being finalized, it is clear that the hospital will undergo major improvements in the coming year. The goal is to begin construction in November, 2007 and complete construction by December, 2008.

The building project will be partially funded by a $4.4 million HEAL NY grant awarded by New York State at the end of 2006. The project includes renovation of the operating rooms and the Memorial wing, relocation of the psychiatric unit inside the hospital, and upgrades to the heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) system.

Plans include the following:

  1. Memorial Wing – Proposed Patient Rooms
    • Private rooms with patient and family amenities
    • Private toilet room with shower
    • Updated finishes
    • Hand-wash sinks in rooms
    • Multiple lighting levels
    • Staffing efficiency and flexibility

  2. Operating Rooms
    • 2 renovated and 2 expanded operating rooms outfitted with the latest in surgical technology
    • Minimally invasive procedure support
    • Ceiling-mounted fixtures
    • Intraoperative data displays
    • Increased flexibility for current and future operations

  3. Mechanical Facility Upgrades (Note: Projected annual savings from these upgrades: $350,000/year)
    • Replace/extend life of boilers
    • Cooling tower repair/replacement
    • Steam trap repair/replacement
    • Upgrade/replacement of feed pumps, chemical feed system, water softeners, converters, pumps and update controls
