Arcuri Announces Education Grant for Auburn
June 7, 2007 — U.S. Representative Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) announced that the U.S. Department of Education has approved a $247,115 Early Childhood Development grant for Partnership for Results, INC. in Auburn.
“As a father, I know first hand how important early childhood education is to the future of our country,” said Arcuri. “In Congress, I have made it a top priority to ensure our teachers, parents, and schools have the resources they need to provide the best education. In today’s constantly changing and expanding global economy, it is important now – more than ever – that our children have the best possible educational opportunities to succeed. I will continue to fight for the resources our schools in Upstate New York need to grow our economy and raise the next generation of leaders.”
This Promotion of School Readiness through Early Childhood Emotional and Social Development Program grant will be used for a pre-school development project for young at risk children in nine early childhood centers in Cayuga Country. The project has five essential components that will promote the emotional, behavioral and social development of at least 240 children and increase the percentage of eligible children and their families receiving individualized support from child-serving agencies and organizations. It will enhance the capacity of pre-school program educations to support at-risk children, ensure comprehensive assessment of eligible children and their families, increase the spectrum of evidence-based programs, improve access to community services, and enhance accountability of early childhood programs.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this to the early childhood centers in Cayuga County because similar programs have demonstrated excellent results,” said Catherine Moran with Partnership for Results, INC.
Promotion of School Readiness through Early Childhood Emotional and Social Development Program grants are awarded to educational agencies, local councils, community-based organizations and other public or nonprofit entities to assist eligible children to become ready for school.
“Already this Congress has shown our commitment to education by passing legislation to improve and reauthorize the national Head Start program, add thousands of highly qualified K-12 math and science teachers to our schools, cut in half the interest rates on federal subsidized student loans, and increase Pell Grant awards to expand access to higher education,” said Arcuri.
