Business Leader Award Luncheon
The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce brought together close to 100 Chamber Members at the 8th Annual Business Leader Award Luncheon on May 30, 2007 to recognize nine outstanding businesses in our community.
The Small Business Awards were awarded for entrepreneurship evidenced by diversification, creativity & imagination in the development of new products/services & markets with demonstrated staying power with a commitment to community involvement & community projects.
Awards were given in three categories:
Small Business of the Year Class 1-5 years:
David & Denise Boglione, Auburn Foundry, Inc.
Small Business of the Year Class 6-14 years:
Midge Fricano, Lake Country Real Estate, Inc.
Small Business of the Year Class 15+ years:
Laura Coburn, Coburn Design, Inc.
Sean McLeod, NY Institute of Dance & Education
Peter Whiting, Whiting's Wallpaper & Paint
Also awarded were business organizations that continually invest in Cayuga County & has shown leadership by taking an active role in the future of our community. These awards were:
Business Leader Over 50 Employees:
Currier Plastics, Inc.
Business Leader Under 50 Employees:
O’Hara Farms, Inc.
Two Non-profit organizations were also given awards for their contributions to the success of our community by raising the quality of citizens in Cayuga County. These were:
Non Profit of the Year:
Auburn YMCA-WEIU
Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency, Inc.
Sponsored by Five Star Bank, the award luncheon featured keynote speaker, Rick Emanuel, Publisher of The Citizen. Mr. Emanuel addressed how to stay ahead of an ever- changing business climate, while focusing on the importance of customer service.
"We are so pleased to celebrate the ongoing contributions that our business community makes to the economic vitality of Cayuga County. The Business Leader Award ceremony also allows us to acknowledge and publicly thank those organizations who contribute to our quality of life by taking an active role in Cayuga County's future," said Terri Bridenbecker, Chamber Executive Director.
Nominations were solicited throughout the County, and a special group of Chamber members served on the Selection Committee. The Committee included Andy Ohstrom, Nucor Steel Auburn; Lon Fricano, TLC; Chris Gordon, Finger Lakes Business Services, Inc.; and Mike Trapani, The Jacobs Press, Inc.
