Sign Guys, LLC, a sign and graphics company on Franklin Street in Auburn, has received assistance from the CDBG, SBAP as well as the Empire Zone program for building acquisition and expansion of business services. Thomas A. Shayler, the owner of the company, wrote a letter in August ’07 thanking the City and staff at the Office of Planning and Economic Development for all of their support. Shayler specifically credited past Planner Cynthia Aikman for her, “…knowledge, compassion, and her willingness to help with any questions that I had… She was a real inspiration.” Shayler in turn has also referred many start-up or growing businesses to her and the Department for assistance. Without these programs, Shayler said he would not be in business today.
